Academic Training Center released

Some of our readers already took notice of our ACADEMIC TRAINING CENTER which can also be  accessed through the Academic Blog–>Free Learning–>Training Center

The purpose of the Training Center is to provide you easy access (and overview) regarding available training models, tutorials, projects, videos, and free recorded Webinars.

For the beginners of you who wish to get started with HyperWorks, we have compiled a Syllabus (lesson plan).  Working on the given tutorials and videos in the syllabus should give you a good start into the CAE world of HyperWorks.

Plesse note: We would appreciate your contribution (models, tutorials, projects) very much – regardless whether you want to have it published “anonymous”, with your initials, with your address. or in your local language!

And please don’t refrain from submitting tutorials which are not perfect – from our own experience we know that there is always room for improvement.

Thank you very much

Mesh Checking and Editing Process

Running the Script, you get this nice small toolbar:

(for your login in the Client Center please use you campus E-Mail address)

This is how it works:

1.)    check Elements using “check elements” panel and click “save failed”

2.)    start PatchChecker using the magnifying glass button on the left. This will generate patches of failed elements and isolates the first patch using a clipping sphere.

    1. cycle through found patches by using the left/right arrow buttons
    2. adjust clipping sphere size by using +/- buttons

3.)    exit patch checker view by clicking on magnifying glass button again.

 There’s one limitation:

Since the Element Highlighting is panel sensitive, failed elements are only highlighted while the Panel is active from which the check elements panel was called. This only affects the highlight, no other usability issues are known regarding to from where the check elements Panel is called.

Model checking with auto correction feature

You can now do a quick check of your finite element model using the NEW “Model Checking with Auto Correction” Feature

HyperMesh 11.0 offers a quick method of checking the file you loaded at two stages:

1. Model Checker for Element checks = Quality of the elements.

2. Model Checker for Solver checks = Solver errors and warnings.

Currently three solvers are supported: LS-DYNA, RADIOSS (Block Format) and OptiStruct. To perform either of the above checks using HyperMesh 11.0.101 on a finite element model, go to Tools pull down from menu bar and select Model Checker [Fig 1] and make an appropriate selection.

Periodic Mesh Utility

Map surface mesh to another surface, by translational and/or rotational symmetrical conditions.

The Periodic Mesh utility can be used to generate a grid containing rotational and/or translational symmetric boundaries, for example rotating machinery in use with CFD analysis. This utility provides the first two steps needed for the larger process of Periodic Mesh work flow.

In the first step, the mesh on the source geometry has to be generated using any of HyperMesh’s surface meshing algorithms – for example, 2D mesh with Boundary Layer.

In the second step of the Periodic Mesh utility, the mesh is mapped from the source geometry onto the target geometry. In addition to source and target geometry, detailed information about the transformation (rotational and/or translational) can be optionally entered.

To access this utility, from the menu bar click Mesh > Create > 2D Elements > Periodic Mesh.

How to Create Structural Forms with 3D Printing: PEGASUS Bridge

How is possible to create this Structural Form?

It’s hard to find the correct definition; certainly it’s very difficult to describe the essence of Structural Form, because it is totally influenced by two such precise concepts — Structure and Form. Interesting examples might be represented by the study of Greek architecture, in which Structure and Form were strictly connected. It is possible to say that Greek Structural Form stems from mathematical rules and have produced a kind of beauty when the rules were used in Architecture. Technology has shown how much the form of an object is influenced by its structure and how much the structure of the same object is influenced by the form of its fundamental parts. Thinking about a crystal of snow, the borderline between structure and form seems to be very thin; it almost disappears.
